Record Growth by Oregon Timber Frame

17 April 2008

Figures for the year ending December 2007 from Oregon Timber Frame Ltd reveal an increase in turnover of 30% to a record £19.5 million. This growth from the largest privately owned timber frame manufacturer in the UK is well above target for the year.

The results show that Oregon enjoyed significant growth not only from its established customers but also from newer customers. It saw an increase in business with both Taylor Wimpey and Kier Homes.

Despite price pressures in the marketplace which started in 2006, net margins improved to 4.7%, helped by efficiencies introduced by Oregon in their administrative procedures.

Rod Lawson, Finance Director of Oregon, commented:

"With existing clients contributing to over half our turnover, it is important that we maintain our high quality of service to them. We are also pleased that our newer customers have significantly increased their amount of business with us, proving that once we have carried out their work successfully, more orders have come our way."

"The big test for 2008 will be to continue to grow despite the tightening market. Recently won new clients such as Bellway in Manchester will help to give a better balance to our customer base. It will be especially important to maintain quality of service and make savings since customers are now looking for cost efficiencies. Finally, we will need to be flexible in our delivery as the market fluctuates."

Notes to Editors:

Oregon produces around 12% of the timber frame requirement within Scotland and is also making progress into the growing English market with blue chip house builders including CALA, Taylor Wimpey, Miller, Bellway, Countryside, Persimmon and Redrow.

The company recently announced the opening of a new manufacturing facility in the Midlands later on this year, specifically to service developments in England. This will complement its existing base in Selkirk in the Borders which currently has capacity to produce 6000 units per year.

Oregon operates a research and development programme with the Centre for Timber Engineering at Edinburgh's Napier University. It has both FSC and PEFC Chain of Custody certification for timber sourcing from sustainable sources. Last year it achieved registration to quality standard ISO 9001.

Oregon was established in 1998 and celebrates its 10th anniversary this year.
