Oregon Wins Cala Homes 'Sub-Contractor of the Year' Award

Borders based Oregon Timber Frame Ltd, the largest privately owned timber frame manufacturer in the UK, has just been awarded “Sub-Contractor of the Year” by major house builders CALA Homes (West) Ltd.

This prestigious award was made, at a highly impressive ceremony held at Airth Castle Hotel on Thursday 24 April, to Mr. John Merry, Managing Director of Oregon Timber Frame Ltd, by Mr. Alastair White, Managing Director of CALA Homes (West) Ltd. The Award specifically recognizes Oregon’s product design, their site performance and their ability to react quickly and efficiently to problems or issues within the build process. The award is one of only two special awards which are nominated and voted on by both CALA construction and office staff.

As Ian MacRae, Head of Customer Service at CALA Homes (West) commented "It was felt that Oregon were very worthy winners of this category, not only meeting our requirements but exceeding them."

Commenting on the Award, Mr. Merry said:

Oregon produces around 12% of the timber frame requirement within Scotland and is also making progress into the growing English market with blue chip house builders including CALA, Taylor Wimpey, Miller, Bellway, Countryside, Persimmon and Redrow.

The company recently announced the opening of a new manufacturing facility in the Midlands later on this year, specifically to service developments in England. This will complement its existing base in Selkirk in the Borders which currently has capacity to produce 6000 units per year.

Oregon operates a research and development programme with the Centre for Timber Engineering at Edinburgh's Napier University. It has both FSC and PEFC Chain of Custody certification for timber sourcing from sustainable sources. Last year it achieved registration to quality standard ISO 9001.

Oregon was established in 1998 and celebrates its 10th anniversary this year.
